First tome home buyer here building a new construction in Central Valley, CA. Temps in the summer are dry and typically run upper 90s to 100 + degrees. Temps in the winter range from low 30s to mid 60s.

The home is just under 3000 sq.ft and will come with insulation as follows: Exterior walls of living area: 6 inches, R-21 Ceiling area: 14 inches, R-49

The builder is offering extra insulation as an upgrade. $1900 for bedrooms and hallways and $945 for the garage. No info on the thickness or R-value.

My husband I don’t know much about insulation. Is this extra insulation needed? Is it worth the extra cost? Are garages usually insulated? Any input is appreciated
